Ray-Ban Aviator: Sizes 55/58/62 & All Versions — Which One Fits You

The Aviator is the pair customers ask for most often by code: "I want the 3025 001/58 in the 58." And almost as often we hear "I had a 62 years ago — it looked huge on me." This guide was written for exactly the moment when you're facing three sizes, eight versions and dozens of colour codes — and you want to walk out with the right one. The size: 55, 58 or 62?

The number on the temple (e.g. 58□14) is the lens width in millimetres. On the Aviator the difference between the three sizes is visible — it changes how much of your face the frame fills.

The most reliable method: check the number on the glasses that already sit well on you — a spec like 58□14-135 reads as lens width □ bridge - temple length. And two mirror tells: if your eyebrows show fully above the lens, you want one size up; if the lens rests on your cheekbones when you smile, one size down.

How an Aviator should sit

Bridge: the acrylic pads should rest on your nose without the frame touching your cheekbones. They're adjustable — we do it on the spot.

Brow: the top line of the lens sits at eyebrow level or just above. No higher.

Width: the temples run straight back to your ears, without pressing your temples or splaying out.

Bottom edge: on the classic teardrop 3025 the lens ends just below the cheekbone — it shouldn't rest on your cheek.

The colour codes: 001/58, 002/4F, 003/32 — what they mean

The three digits before the slash are the frame, after it the lens. Once you learn it, you read any Aviator at a glance.

Glass or organic lenses?

The Aviator was born with a glass G-15 lens — and that's how most of the Aviators we currently carry come. Glass practically never scratches, gives the cleanest image and that signature "quality weight" in the hand; the downside is exactly that weight (a few extra grams on the nose) and that it can break if dropped on a hard floor. Organic lenses are lighter and shatterproof — ideal if you ride a motorcycle or wear them for sport — but need more careful cleaning. What you learn in store

The 58 is NOT "small." On the Aviator, medium is already a large lens. The 62 became popular in the '80s — unless your face is proportionally large, it looks excessive.

The Puffer has a "small" number (50/52) but it isn't a small pair. The chunky frame adds volume — try it before you judge it by the number.

The Reverse isn't for everyone. The reversed curve changes the reflections — it's a fashion statement, not a "better" Aviator.

The gold frame is plated. With sweat and seawater it needs rinsing — otherwise, over the years, it "fades" at the bridge. The Titanium doesn't have this issue.

Plastic fakes sell a "62 large" for €20. The genuine 3025 has RB etched on the lens and the codes on the temple — that's how you tell the real ones apart.
