In short: HOYA's Japanese progressive lenses come in three tiers — Amplitude (value), Balansis (wide, distortion-free mid-range) and Hoyalux iD LifeStyle (flagship). All are freeform, come in indices from 1.5 to 1.67 for thinner lenses, and can be paired with the SHV, Long Life or Blue Control coatings.

HOYA is one of Japan's great optical houses, and its progressive lenses are digitally cut with freeform technology for the widest possible field of view. The lenses are organic, with an anti-reflective and scratch-resistant finish, an oil- and water-repellent surface so they stay clean, and a design that gives fast, comfortable adaptation without dizziness. The three HOYA progressive families

Amplitude

The value freeform range for people who want a genuine branded progressive at an accessible price. Fast adaptation, easy switching between near and far, and channels of 11 mm and 15 mm for small or large frames.

Balansis

A new-generation, double-aspheric freeform design. It gives the widest possible distortion-free field, comfortable movement between distances and stable vision even on stairs — combining three HOYA technologies.

Hoyalux iD LifeStyle (3 & 4)

Index — how thin your lens will be

HOYA progressives are available across the full range of index options, so the lens can be matched to your prescription:

1.5 — standard, ideal for low prescriptions.

1.53 Trivex (PNX) — lightweight and impact-resistant.

1.6 — noticeably thinner, for medium prescriptions.

1.67 — the thinnest option, for stronger prescriptions so the lens does not sit thick in the frame.

The coatings: SHV, Long Life & Blue Control

Every HOYA progressive can be finished with one of three coatings, each a step up:

Which HOYA progressive families are there?

What does the lens index (1.5 to 1.67) change?

The higher the index, the thinner and lighter the lens. Low prescriptions are fine at 1.5 or 1.53 Trivex; stronger prescriptions look and feel better at 1.6 or 1.67, so the lens does not sit thick in the frame.

What is the difference between the SHV, Long Life and Blue Control coatings?

SHV is a hard anti-reflective, water- and oil-repellent coating with a 2-year warranty. Long Life adds the highest scratch resistance, an anti-static layer and a 3-year warranty. Blue Control adds protection from the blue light of LED screens for computer, tablet and phone use.

How quickly will I adapt to HOYA progressives?
