High-definition glasses

(High Definition) offer unprecedented clear and relaxed vision, reducing or eliminating higher-order aberrations. The high-precision surfaces of High Definition lenses help reduce the irregularities of conventional lenses, removing the halo effect around lights at night, cutting glare and widening the clear field of view.

Free-form lenses

The most popular type of high-definition lens is the free-form lens. By "free form" we mean an advanced manufacturing process that reduces higher-order aberrations, such as the spherical aberration that occurs in lenses made with traditional processes and tools.

How they are made

Digital High Definition lenses are optimised with specialised computer-controlled surfacing equipment (digital surfacing) that is far more precise than conventional tools. In fact, Free-Form technology can produce lenses accurate to 0.01 dioptres, compared with conventional tools that reach only 0.125 to 0.25 dioptres.

Who wears HD lenses

Almost everyone who wears glasses is a good candidate for High Definition lenses, but people with higher prescriptions may notice more benefit than those with very low powers. The result is better image quality, better peripheral vision, improved contrast sensitivity and less glare from lights at night. Conventional lenses often cause dizziness when fitted to highly curved frames.

Curved sunglasses

Can they be made with the new technology? For prescription sunglasses, the problem until now was that highly curved wraparound frames caused dizziness when looking through the edge of the lens. High Definition free-form lenses now solve this: curved sunglasses can be made to your prescription while giving clear peripheral vision and greater comfort without dizziness.

What about the cost?

Because of the advanced technology and highly specialised equipment required, Free-Form High Definition lenses cost more than conventional lenses of the same material and design.
