What exactly are UV rays?

Ultraviolet (UV) rays are located just before violet, in the visible light spectrum. Their main source is sunlight. Ultraviolet light is divided into three different types: UVA, UVB and UVC. UVA has longer wavelengths and passes through glass easily. UVB rays are the most dangerous, making sunglasses and sunscreen essential. UVC rays do not reach the Earth, because the atmosphere's ozone blocks them.

What are the different types of lenses for sunglasses?

Different sun lens tints can help you see better in different conditions.

  • Blue-blocker lenses block blue light and usually have an amber-brown color. Studies show that blue light is harmful and could increase the risk of eye damage from diseases such as macular degeneration. These lenses are popular among skiers, hunters, boaters and pilots who use them to increase contrast.
  • Both polarized sun lenses (polarized) and lenses with an anti-reflective coating help eliminate annoying reflections and glare. In particular, polarized lenses are used a lot by those involved with the sea and snow, but also by cyclists and drivers.
